The risk of being scammed on a dating site

Dr Martin Graff, FBS, will be interviewed on BBC Radio Wales today (Monday, 24 November), discussing his research into the personality traits of those who fall victim to online dating scams.

Dr Martin Graff is Reader and Head of Research in Psychology. He is an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Chartered Psychologist. He has carried out research in the areas of online interaction and the formation and dissolution of romantic relationships online and offline. He has also carried out research in the areas of online persuasion, and online disinhibition, supervising several doctoral degrees in this area. In 2013 has was invited as a visiting research professor to State University of New York, Cortland, USA. Dr Graff has written over 50 scientific articles, and published widely in the field of Internet behaviour.

The research was conducted with Dr Sarah Taylor-Jones, a lecturer in psychology, who completed her PhD on online persuasion last year. She is currently involved with projects in online trust and persuasion online.
