Behaviour analysis involves the scientific study of the complex relationships between behaviour and environment across a range of settings and populations. The Behaviour Analysis Research Group at the University of South Wales employ this science with an aim toward improving the lives of individuals with challenging behaviour and those that support them.

Can a positive school environment tackle challenging behaviour in pupils?
Dr Jennifer Austin’s research centres on addressing challenging behaviour through creating positive school environments for children. She was recently recruited by a local Pupil Referral Unit (i.e., a school for children excluded from mainstream education because of severe behavioural or emotional problems) to design evidence-based school and class-wide systems for encouraging positive behaviour and developing essential life skills.
