Can a positive school environment tackle challenging behaviour in pupils?

Dr Jennifer Austin’s research centres on addressing challenging behaviour through creating positive school environments for children. She was recently recruited by a local Pupil Referral Unit (i.e., a school for children excluded from mainstream education because of severe behavioural or emotional problems) to design evidence-based school and class-wide systems for encouraging positive behaviour and developing essential life skills. She is currently working with a high-risk mainstream primary school to implement school-wide positive behaviour support.
